Underfitting

When a model is too simple to capture the underlying structure of the data, resulting in poor performance on both training and test data.

Unitary Matrix

A matrix whose inverse is its conjugate transpose; unitary operations preserve lengths and orthogonality in complex vector spaces.

Unsupervised Learning

Learning patterns from data without labelled examples, such as clustering or dimensionality reduction.

Upsampling

Increasing the resolution or sampling rate of data, as in image or audio processing.

User Embedding

A vector representation of a user’s preferences learned from their interactions, enabling personalized recommendations.

User Journey Analysis

Mapping and analysing the sequence of interactions a user has with a brand to improve experience and conversion.

Utility Function

A function that ranks outcomes according to desirability, guiding optimisation in reinforcement learning or decision making.
