The AI world is buzzing today. OpenAI kicked off their “12 Days of OpenAI” event with two major announcements that could change how we all interact with AI. Let’s dive in.
First up is the full release of their o1 reasoning model – and trust me, this is the upgrade we’ve been waiting for. If you’re already a ChatGPT Plus or Team user, you can start playing with it right now. Enterprise and Edu folks, your turn comes next week. What’s the big deal? Think faster responses, sharper coding assistance, and way smarter image analysis. It’s also multi-modal, so if you’ve been wanting to add files (spreadsheets, images, etc.), this is a significant improvement. Although, I’m still annoyed I can’t leverage the web through it…that will come shortly.
But here’s where it gets really interesting: OpenAI is introducing ChatGPT Pro at $200/month. Yes, that’s a big jump from the Plus tier, but what you get is pretty wild – unlimited GPT-4o access, Advanced Voice Mode, and exclusive o1 pro features that’ll make complex problem-solving feel like a breeze. Don’t worry if that’s not in your budget – the regular Plus subscription ($20/month) isn’t going anywhere.
The $200/month feature is in response to users who require significant problem solving abilities without any bandwidth restriction. Think complex, long-string computations. For professionals and researchers who live and breathe AI for heavy lifting, these updates are game-changing. The Pro tier is basically like getting a supercomputer in your pocket, while Plus users can still stay ahead of the curve with early access to new features.
And this is just day one of twelve. My hope is they drop Sora, their text-to-video AI, during this event. I’ll be glued to their announcements – this feels like Christmas came early for AI enthusiasts.
Stay tuned for more updates as OpenAI continues their announcement spree. This holiday season just got a whole lot more interesting.
