Text-to-Video.

Text-to-video is AI that generates a short video clip from a written description, and for agencies it changes how fast a concept can be shown, though not yet how a finished spot gets made.

Also known as prompt-to-video, AI video generation

What it is

A working definition of Text-to-Video.

A text-to-video model takes a written prompt, and sometimes a reference image or a first frame, and produces a few seconds of moving footage. Under the hood it extends the same ideas as image generators so that motion, lighting, and objects stay consistent from one frame to the next.

Clip length, camera control, and consistency of characters across shots vary a lot between tools, and they change quickly. Treat any capability list as a snapshot and test the current tool on your own brief.

Why ad agencies care

Why Text-to-Video matters in agency work.

The value is speed of visualization, and the risk is mistaking a convincing clip for a finished asset.

Faster pitches and animatics. Moving concept reels can replace static boards, so a client sees pacing and mood before any shoot is booked

Cheaper social variations. Short vertical cutdowns and background plates for social can be explored in an afternoon, with humans still deciding what ships

New review burden. Generated footage can hide odd physics, product inaccuracies, or lookalike faces. Someone has to own that check, and clients may need disclosure language about synthetic content

In practice

What text-to-video looks like inside a working ad agency.

An agency is pitching a travel brand and has two days. The creative director writes six shot descriptions for a sunrise road trip and generates a dozen clips for each, then an editor cuts the best into a forty-second mood reel with licensed music. The client approves the direction, and the real campaign is shot on location with a crew. The generated reel is labeled as concept footage in the deck, and the team keeps the prompts and tool settings in the project folder so the look can be briefed to the production company.
