LLM Seeding.

LLM seeding is the practice of placing clear, credible content in the places AI models learn from and cite, so that assistants mention your brand when people ask relevant questions; for agencies, it is a new kind of content and PR work.

Also known as AI seeding, seeding for AI answers, training-data PR

What it is

A working definition of LLM Seeding.

LLM seeding means publishing and distributing content on purpose so that large language models are more likely to pick it up, understand it, and repeat it in answers. That includes your own site, but also the third-party sources models lean on: industry publications, forums, review sites, reference pages and well-structured data.

The idea is simple. Models answer from what they have seen and what they can retrieve. If the best explanation of your client’s category, product or point of view lives in places models read, the brand is more likely to show up when someone asks an assistant for a recommendation.

Why ad agencies care

Why LLM Seeding matters in agency work.

Search used to reward ranking on a page of links. Assistants reward being the source they quote, and that shifts what agencies are asked to deliver.

It widens what counts as media. Placements that never drove much traffic, such as a thoughtful forum answer, an expert quote or a clear comparison article, can matter because models read them. PR and content teams get a new reason to be careful where a brand appears.

Clarity beats cleverness. Models extract plain statements. Copy that says exactly what a product is, who it is for and how it differs gets reused. Copy built on wordplay often does not. Creative teams will feel this tension.

Results are hard to prove. No dashboard shows exactly why an assistant named a brand. Agencies need honest expectations, repeated test queries and careful reporting rather than promises of a guaranteed mention.

In practice

What LLM seeding looks like inside a working ad agency.

A regional insurance client is never named when people ask an AI assistant for the best renters insurance for freelancers, even though it has the strongest product for that group. The agency audits which sources the assistants appear to cite, then plans a six-week effort: a plain-language guide on the client’s site that answers the twelve most common freelancer questions, two expert-written pieces placed in trade publications, and answers from the client’s licensed agents in relevant community forums. Each month the team runs the same set of test questions across several assistants and logs when the client appears. It reports the pattern with caution, since results shift as models update.
